Cereals Canada pledges support for the Grain Growers of Canada’s ‘Road to 2050’

November 28, 2022 (Ottawa, ON) – The Grain Growers of Canada are pleased to welcome Cereals Canada, the national association representing the Canadian wheat, barley, and oats value chain, as the newest industry partner on the ‘Road to 2050’.

“We are pleased to join the Grain Growers of Canada’s Road to 2050,” says Dean Dias, Chief Executive Officer of Cereals Canada. “It’s important that agriculture comes together. By collaborating and jointly building a plan, it will be successful for our growers, the value chain, and our industry partners.”

The ‘Road to 2050’ climate solutions initiative will propose a path that focuses on innovation, research, and beneficial management practices that will reduce emissions, while feeding a growing world population.

“Cereals Canada is driving a collaborative approach to market development and research across different sectors,” says GGC Chair Andre Harpe. “As the national voice for the cereals value chain, their expertise and insights will bring tremendous value on the ‘Road to 2050.”

Cereals Canada brings a wealth of knowledge to the ‘Road to 2050’ through a strategic alliance of partners from across the cereals value chain. One example is the National Wheat Research Priorities, led by Cereals Canada in partnership with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. The six wheat research strategy themes have been developed to increase innovation and sustainability while safeguarding food security.

“The Canadian cereals industry, which supports the work of over 52,000 Canadian farms and returns $9.9 billion in export revenue to the Canadian economy, relies on innovation,” says Dias. “Canadian agriculture grows safe, high-quality ingredients for domestic and global customers and continually strives for sustainability.”

As part of the next steps of their ‘Road to 2050’, GGC has emphasized a collaborative approach with industry partners. GGC’s partnership with Cereals Canada follows announcements with Corteva Agriscience and Fertilizer Canada.
